What is HEIC and why convert it here?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on many iPhones. It keeps quality high at a smaller size than older JPG files, but Windows PCs, many websites, and some email clients still prefer JPG.

This one page covers three exports. JPG for email and forms that only name JPEG. PNG when you need a lossless still — a screenshot-like crop, type, or a photo you will edit again — without JPEG ringing around the letters. PDF when a portal wants a document, not a photo: several HEICs become ordered pages in the tab, decoded with WebAssembly and written with pdf-lib. That is not a Mac print-to-PDF dance, and it is not ID-photo compliance.
