JPG to PNG is not a quality upgrade

PNG cannot invent the detail JPEG already discarded. There is no quality slider here because the encode is lossless from the pixels on the canvas — including ringing around type. Use this when an editor or a printer wants a PNG container, not as a repair.

The PNG will be opaque. JPEG never stored a hole. If you need a logo with transparency, start from a PNG or from WebP to PNG. A photographic JPEG becomes a larger PNG; that size jump is expected.

Decoding and encoding stay in the browser. This is a different job from Compress image (kilobytes) and from Resize image (pixels). One container change, one page.

Will the PNG be transparent?
Not from a JPEG source. JPEG never stored a hole. The PNG will be opaque at the same pixel size. If you need a logo with a hole, start from a PNG or WebP that actually has alpha — see WebP to PNG.
Why is the PNG larger than the JPEG?
Lossless PNG of a photograph is usually bigger. That is expected. If you needed a smaller file, stay on JPEG or use Compress image.
Does this upload the JPEG?
No. Decoding and re-encoding run in the browser with createImageBitmap and canvas.
