What does a 4:5 or square post look like on the profile grid?

The post keeps its shape when someone taps it open in the feed — but the TILE that lands on your profile grid is center-cropped to 3:4, so the sides fall away on 4:5 and square posts, and the top & bottom on 9:16. The tile check row shows the kept percentage for each photo you add; when the framing itself must survive, pre-cropping to 3:4 on the grid resizer is the fix.

Plan the 3:4 grid AND the per-slide captions before you publish

A profile grid is read as a page, not as nine separate posts: color runs, horizon lines, and alternating light/dark tiles only show their effect once the whole block is laid out. This preview builds Instagram's 3×3 grid from up to nine photos, each cover-cropped to the 3:4 tile the profile now uses, in the order the posts will appear — top-left to bottom-right. The tile check also shows, for every photo, how much survives the 3:4 profile tile — 4:5 and square posts keep their shape in feed but are center-cropped on the grid.

Since Instagram opened up per-slide captions, the text belongs next to the images it describes. Every tile here has an expandable caption row with a live character count — code-point aware, so emoji count the way people count them — against the 2,200-character per-slide limit. The whole-post checks panel totals what Instagram actually enforces per POST: 30 hashtags and 30 mentions across all slides combined, plus slide 1's first line against the ~125-character '…more' fold, with advice strings that tell you exactly what to move below it.
