What mosaic removal can and cannot do

A mosaic, or pixelation, replaces each square of an image with one color. That step throws the original detail away. No tool can honestly decrypt those blocks back into the true pixels.

This page finds the mosaic period and phase, samples the inside of each cell, then reconstructs with Lanczos interpolation and a light sharpen so the grid is less harsh. Use it on photos you already own — screenshots, compressed stills, or pictures you pixelated yourself. Everything runs in your browser tab.

If the auto-detect misses the grid, switch to a manual block size that matches one mosaic cell. The result is a smoother image, not a reconstructed original.

How to use Mosaic Remover

  1. 1Add the pixelated photo(s) you want to smooth (JPG, PNG, or WebP).
  2. 2Leave Auto-detect on, or switch to Manual and enter the mosaic block size in pixels.
  3. 3Click “Remove mosaic”. The grid is interpolated locally — nothing is uploaded.
  4. 4Download the smoothed file. This cannot restore original pixels that were discarded.

No. Detection and smoothing run entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
Does mosaic removal restore the original image?
No. Pixelation discards the original detail. This tool interpolates the remaining blocks so the grid is less visible. It cannot recover pixels that were thrown away.
What kind of mosaic can it fix?
Blocky pixelation on photos you own — compression grids, screenshot mosaics, and similar N×N color cells. Use Auto-detect or set the block size yourself.
Can I process several images at once?
